'When The Light Falls And The Bear Sleeps' is an ethereal winter lullaby that invites the listener to slow down, reset and rest their bones. Throughout the song, Emaline sings about getting in tune with nature's rhythm, encouraging reflection and letting go of the heaviness of the previous year, ready for new growth when warmer days return.'

About the new single

Emaline Delapaix wrote her new single 'When The Light Falls (And The Bear Sleeps)' during a bitingly cold, snowy week in her tiny Berlin apartment several years ago. She felt nostalgic for previous winters spent in rural Mecklenburg Vorpommern, Germany, as well as in a tiny wooden cabin on an island in Western Canada...when life seemed simpler. The song came out of her mental health struggles when she wanted to make peace with winter once and for all, learning to be grateful for the opportunity it brings us to slow down, reflect, reset and 'rest our bones'.  She carried the song around for several years, playing it live like a mantra for comfort for her and others, reconnecting with her ancestors' traditions during colder months, finding ritual and meaning. Then she got diagnosed with several autoimmune diseases and her music had to be put on hold for the next years while she received treatment.

After learning to manage her chronic illness and beginning to play music again, in late 2024, Emaline found the right collaborator for this song in engineer/producer/musician 'Fieke Van Den Hurk' and her Dear World Studio in the Dutch Countryside. Fieke worked with many well known Scandinavian musicians such as Eivør, Myrkur, Heilung, Nanna Barslev and many more, bringing a wealth of experience and vision to Emaline's project. She was able to help create a winter soundscape on the song with her moody accordion using effects pedals, wind from the bellows and percussion with shamanic drums as well as a tiny sweeping broom, sweeping away the heaviness of the year. Fieke's friend and former bandmate Sophie Zaaijer was brought in to add a haunting string section including Swedish nyckelharpa, a medieval instrument, connecting the song to Emaline's love for all things Swedish. From the beginning to the end, all aspects of the song were created by women apart from a little mandolin by Emaline's partner, Lukas. Because of this, you can definitely hear the nurturing, powerful female energy pulsating through the song, giving Mother Nature a voice. And she tells us that we should listen.

A few life setbacks meant that the song wouldn't be released until the 13th February 2025, but winter isn't over yet for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere.

Emaline hopes her little winter lullaby will bring the listener some comfort while we wait for warmer days ahead, and that we can all find some wisdom and beauty in slowing down and hibernating when needed for our spirit, to prepare for the coming year.

The single will be released digitally on all platforms on the 13th February.  Emaline is also making 50 limited edition handmade CD singles in recycled card sleeves that will come with a bonus non-album track for sale only through her Bandcamp page.

When The Light Falls And The Bear Sleeps - Written by Emaline Delapaix

When the light falls, and the bear sleeps.
And the river grows colder, day by day.
Beneath, the creatures start to slow down,
cooling blood and one last breath!

Before winter takes her hold.
Ruling over all below, day by day.
The cool it swallows up the earth,
and lazy grey skies like blankets.

Wrap us up,
and give us time to reflect.
So we can rest our bones
and reset.

Ooooh…

As the sun, she takes her light away.
And with time the moon becomes the king, day by day.
He throws his cloak, across the sky,
as passing birds they swim the divide.

As a chill creeps down from the poles.
Trees and flowers return to seed, day by day.
The cool it swallows up the earth,
and lazy grey skies like blankets.

Wrap us up,
and give us time to reflect.
So we can rest our bones,
and reset.

Ooooh…

Geese meditate in their airstream, moving south.
Hundreds of miles away.
While I’m mourning the heavy weight of life.
When it’s time to let go.
Piece by piece, let it go.
Piece by piece, let it go.

When the light falls and the bear sleeps.
And the river grows colder, day by day.
The cool it swallows up the earth,
and lazy grey skies like blankets.

Wrap us up,
and give us time to reflect.
So we can rest our bones
and reset.

Wrap us up,
and give us time to reflect.
So we can rest our bones…
